Low-E Insulation Products have a variety of applications in the residential building envelope. From top to bottom they include but are not limited to roofing underlayments, attic and interior wall insulation, crawl space and HVAC insulation as well as an extremely efficient housewrap. All of these products in these applications combine to form a highly effective insulation system. This will keep energy consumption to a minimum and will offer you substantial savings over the life of your home.
Commercial Steel Application
Most metal building applications fit our ¼ thick staple flange product. This product comes 4’, 5’ or 6’ wide and in standard lengths of 125’, 100’ or 84’. These standard 500 square foot rolls weigh less than 30 lbs. Custom lengths are available depending on quantity ordered. The product is typically installed stand alone or over the top of vinyl faced metal building insulation (MBI). Stand alone Low-E can replace an R-11 to 13 MBI . An emissivity value of .03 is achieved by our material. The latter installation (combined with vinyl faced fiberglass insulation) widens the differential between indoor and outdoor temperature therefore limiting condensation. It eliminates the need for thermal blocking, protects the metal panels from condensation damage and provides a perm of .008 to the outer building shell. Basically it keeps the hot from coming in contact with cold. The existing ventilation within the roof or wall system combined with the lower perm of .020 of the MBI facing underneath allows the glass to breath normally but remains drier, therefore functioning closer to it’s labeled specifications. Combining the Low-E and the MBI achieves higher “R” values in a lower profile. The combination reduces oil canning and fastener stress on the metal panels, seals the system and installs quickly.
BioBased
BioBased 501 spray-in-place insulation is an innovative, ultra lightweight two-part soybean oil-based polyurethane. It is a semi-open celled, semi-rigid foam that in one step provides a sealed thermal envelope that simplifies construction practices. This first-of-its-kind foam insulation has been formulated with the environment in mind. It contains no formaldehyde and emits no VOCs (volatile organic compounds) or CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons). It acts like a petroleum-based plastic foam without the environmental side effects, using the annually renewable resource of soybeans. It is the greenest, most environmentally friendly insulation in the industry.
Product Specification – BioBased 501 Spray Foam
BioBased Insulation unveiled of its new 1701 soy-based product, a water-blown closed cell spray foam. BioBased Insulation’s 1701 is an alternative for environmentally conscious consumers, builders, and architects. Before 1701, closed-cell spray foams were primarily petroleum-based and most relied on CFC (chlorofluorocarbons) or HCFC (hydrochlorofluorocarbons) blowing agents. These agents are known for being highly volatile and require specific guidelines that applicators must adhere to during storage and transportation. Because BioBased 1701 uses water as its blowing agent and does not contain these harmful agents, the installment process and finished product is completely earth friendly. Consumers using BioBased 1701 will also reap the environmental and cost saving benefit of reduction in energy usage. – BioBased 1701 Spray Foam
Installation
Anchor Insulation Systems utilizes certified technicians that specialize in the installation of soy-based spray foam insulation. Application of the product can generally occur independent of environmental conditions—it can be installed in hot, humid, or freezing conditions—and surface preparation is generally not necessary. Once BioBased 501 has been sprayed, curing takes only a few seconds.
Cost Effectiveness
Forming a true thermal seal, BioBased Insulation has the ability to reduce utility bills by 30-50% over standard construction techniques. That means your potential savings can be huge. Still, some people may be tempted to use a less expensive, but largely inferior, conventional insulation when building their home. This is a big mistake. Why? Because building with BioBased Insulation only affects your mortgage payments marginally, perhaps by a few dollars, but your monthly utility bill could drop by a hundred dollars or more. With BioBased Insulation you start saving right away, and continue to do so for the entire life of your home.
BioBased 501 spray foam insulation has a high R-value for the life of the building. This reduces heating and cooling energy costs, and constantly pays back the investment. Although BioBased 501 typically has a slight cost premium over “economy” insulation systems, experience has shown this is more than paid back to all parties:
• Residential owners get reduced utility bills and greater building comfort
• Commercial users get reduced utility bills, greater employee comfort, better control of the building and reduction of “sick building” situations.
• Builders complete the project sooner and avoid call-backs and problems.
